Creative writing workshop for talented students

What exactly do you expect when you hear of a writers workshop where you learn about poetry? Probably something like rhyming patterns, things that you usually learn in school.

But let me tell you, that's not what this workshop was about. The workshop was held by Beth Ann Fennelly, who is an American writer, well known for her stunning creative writing and her published books.

We started the workshop by looking at some poetry. We talked about what they felt like, whether they were calm, chaotic and what the author was probably thinking about, realized how much you can find out about someone just by four tiny words they wrote, what impact it has when you change two sentences in order. Mrs. Fenelly was able to do this in a fun and interesting way, her energy and excitement was truly catching.

In the end, everyone wrote a little poem by themselves. The poems were about a special place for us and while some students chose a real place and memory they had, some decided to choose a fictional place. The outcomes were truly convincing. All of us learned a lot during the two hours. For me, it truly helped that I realized, poetry doesn't even have to rhyme, even though that sounds nice, it's not everything poetry is about.

In the end, we want to thank Mrs. Fennelly and the DAI for this amazing experience and the great opportunity.
